Commissioner's Message
Welcome
to the Workplace Safety Web Site. The Workplace Safety Account was
established by the legislature and given to the Labor Commission
with a charge to reduce workplace accidents. We have accepted that
charge and have spent a great deal of our time and energy toward
preventing accidents in the workplace. The program has been in operation
for years. Great progress has been made in that period of time.
Preventing accidents benefits both the employer and the employee.
For the employer, productivity is increased because there is no
need to train replacements for injured workers. Cost of producing
products and/or services are reduced by lower workers' compensation
premiums, no medical expenses to pay for, and productivity increases
by a workforce with higher moral.
For the employee it's a quality of life issue. Not only are there
the physical and emotional effects of the injury itself, but accidents
also reduce the family's financial resources. Familes also may have
difficulties functioning well when a memeber is suddenly incapaciated.
An employee who works safely on the job will usually work safely at home. Both the employer and the employee gain by having an accident free workplace.
I hope you will find useful suggestions as you review this web site. We would be happy to hear your ideas as to how it can be improved. Please contact the webmaster with suggestions.
